Perfect Manhattan
Equipment
- 1 Cocktail shaker
- 1 Cocktail Stirrer
- 1 Fine strainer
- 1 Zester
Ingredients
- 2 oz Bourbon opt for a good high-proof bourbon to add depth and warmth
- ยฝ oz Sweet Vermouth fruity and rich
- ยฝ oz Dry Vermouth herbal and crisp
- 1 dash Angostura bitters adds spice and complexity
Instructions
Prepare the Glass
- Place your coupe glass in the freezer to chill. A proper Manhattan is never served in haste; its poise begins with the frosted elegance of its vessel.
Combine the Ingredients
- Fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice, those rigid shards standing like a crystalline orchestra awaiting its first note. Slowly pour in the bourbon, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, and a precise dash of Angostura bitters.
Stir with Care
- Gently stir the mixture for 30 seconds, not a moment more nor less. This delicate act allows the flavors to harmonize while keeping the liquid beautifully clearโa hallmark of the Manhattan.
Strain the Elixir
- Using a fine strainer, pour the cocktail into your chilled coupe glass. The liquid should glide like silk, unmarred by shards of ice or imperfections.
Garnish
- Crown your creation with an orange twist, its oils releasing a final burst of aroma atop your perfect Manhattan. Alternatively, a brandied cherry may be dropped with a quiet, resplendent plop, resting serenely until its final bittersweet farewell on your palate.
Notes
The Manhattan is as much about quality as it is about craftsmanship. For this โPerfect Manhattan,โ I double down on that ethos, balancing both sweet and dry vermouth for a nuanced, ethereal flavor profile.
My bourbon of choice is: Woodford Reserve
